I've had a good week, no surgery needed for the gall bladder but negotiating a high fibre, low fat and gluten free diet is a tough ask.

Booked a last minute trip to Northern Ireland to visit our grandsons and for Peter to meet the youngest who is now 3 months old.

Lots of reading, gardening and chilling out in the afternoons and evenings. Days out and sunshine.

What a weekend since my last post. 

I spent Friday and Saturday in hospital and I'm now on a waiting list for surgery to have my gall bladder out.

On Sunday night we went to Birmingham to watch ELO live in concert.

I'm heading home today after a fab week visiting my two grandsons in Northern Ireland. The eldest was in hospital over the weekend (Friday - Sunday) but bounced back and has been running me ragged with playing with his cars, reading stories and baking cakes. 

I bought a slide over with me and despite the rain he's had a fun time playing on it.

2nd - 5th May 2025 Post Comment Love

Welcome back to #PoCoLo with Stephanie from Bosworth.Life and I. I Hope you all had a good Easter break. I know even if you don't celebrate Easter you will have had some time off in most places around the world. When we lived in Dubai and I taught in an Arabic owned school with a dual curriculum Arabic and  British curriculum we had two weeks off to coincide with the Easter break, although obviously called spring break. Peter also had a long weekend off work as his company would observe all cultures and traditions. 

It's been busy and relaxing for us. We've spent time with the grandchildren at our house and visits to theirs, including the birth of our 4th grandchild where I am this weekend in Northern Ireland, getting my cuddles in.

There's been camping trips, sleep overs, days out to Castles and Stately homes, BBQs, picnics, gardening,  football matches (for me) time with friends also. There's also been migraines and the general level of sadness that follows us around after our daughter died last year, which we're beginning to accept is now part of our lives that we'll have to carry around with us forever, that shapes and changes our daily lives as well as our future.

January has really taken its time. It feels like there have been eleventy days each week so far. It was only just over 2 weeks ago that we got back from Las Vegas after spending Christmas over there. 

We haven't done much since we've got back. It took us over a week to recover from the jet lag.

I'm now back in work full time and it's wiped me out, it's been manic one minute then so quiet I've felt a little lost. I work in Alternative Provision with school avoiders, so it's a case of all in or none in. I have no idea who is going to be there one day to the next, then there are random drop ins, for short term support. I will admit I do love it, it keeps me on my toes.

10th - 12th January 2025 - Post Comment Love

Welcome back to #PoCoLo with Stephanie from Bosworth.Life and I. I hope you all had a great Christmas and are having a fabulous tart to 2025.

We spent Christmas in Las Vegas. It was something we had booked before our daughter died in October and I'm glad we had or we would've ended up moping around and feeling obliged to be visiting people that we just didn't want to spend time with. 

New Year was strange as we were flight on our way home, with the Captain announcing the New Year as we flew near New York. Does that count as me saying we spent the New Year in New York? Hubby says no.

18th - 20th October 2024 - Post Comment Love

We said goodbye to child 1 this week, our daughter Stephanie. It may seems strange that I'm doing something so normal like blogging, but apart from adding these few personal words and a photo, everything else has been scheduled for the past 3 weeks and the rest of the month. 

Where talking is almost impossible, saying the words 'our daughter died' will be stuck in the back of my throat forever, but typing and writing come easier, reading through all the messages sent with love from family and friends around the world has provided Peter and I with the greatest of comfort over the past 12 days, as much as the physical hugs from our family and closest of friends.

To have people reach out from the blogging world, from social media, who have lost a child, people I've connected with from 15 years ago, people who have moved from online friends to real world ones, who have met our daughter, people who have only ever followed our journey online as parents of a disabled adult and helped us with out daily battles, it has been the best network we could've ever asked for.

No I'm not functioning, I'm not writing this with clarity, I can hardly see through the tears. I'm not getting on with normal life, life with never be the same again. It will be OK, I believe you when you tell me that, it will just be different, there will be a new normal.

We spent last weekend at The Three Counties Autumn Show in Malvern, it's only a few miles down the road from home. We go to all the shows. It stayed dry for the day, albeit a little cold.

One of the stalls was selling African Art, it reminded me of Lynnwood Road Corner, near where we lived in South Africa, even the background fitted in with the scene we used to drive by on a regular basis.

My cousin and her partner are visiting from Brighton this weekend before collecting my aunt who has been staying with my mum for a fortnight. It's Peter's birthday on Sunday, we'll be going out for a walk and a pub lunch.

Back to school this week for me and my new job as an Academic Tutor. Mostly training for my new role this week and mucking in where needed while my new classroom and students are sorted out.

The summer holidays have just raced away. I can feel the cold in the air as we head into Autumn. I've changed the reef on the front door from the summer flowers to the pumpkin heart. I keep them on the landing and I'll be making a Christmas one in late November with my work colleagues. 

We've got a couple of camping trips lined up and plan to 'carry on camping' throughout the winter months as the van has a heater that runs off the diesel. We won't use the awning in the winter months, but have a small 2 man tent we'll pop up to store things in to save space inside the van and if we're camping off grid and using the solar panel, it will double as our toilet tent.

It's back to school for me on Monday so a quiet week, catching up with jobs around the house and garden and a couple of coffee dates with work colleagues to catch up with their summer holiday news as we won't get chance in the first week with the new year 7 intake and in my new role as a Tutor I'll be working independently.

We've also been dog sitting this week. The cat was not impressed.

I've also had a migraine which was made worse with a MRI scan early in the week and I've spent a lot of time in bed waiting for the meds to kick in.

We had a fantastic time in Turkey with our friends. Really relaxing. We got back last Saturday morning.

 I headed off to Belfast on Sunday to visit out Grandson. He's kept me busy. I'm flying back tonight. 

We're dog sitting till Thursday, then it's back to school for me and the summer holidays will be over. We're going to see if we can fit in a few nights away in the campervan.

It's been cold in Northern Ireland. My son had the fire lit in the week.

My husband has been in Cairo for a week working. He retired in June 2021, I'm surprised he lasted this long before they dragged him back out. It was only to deliver some training but it looks like it might be more than a 'one off' which is fine with both of us.

I'm still not used to having him around 24/7 after 20+ years of him always being away, usually at the drop of a hat. When we lived abroad I was so isolated and lonely, especially when we were in Dubai after the kids left home, but I have enjoyed this week on my own. 

Don't get me wrong, we both have our own space, friends and do our own thing, watching TV, cooking meals, going out and I'm still working, but I have enjoyed the not having to make decisions about anything other than just myself and being able to go to sleep at my time of choosing (not bed, just the time I automatically fall asleep) without the TV being on timer or another person just doing there thing which often disturbs me, such as rolling over, has been bliss.

I'll be collecting him from Heathrow this weekend and as it's half term next week, we'll both have a week off together to get on one another's nerves again.

I've been rather stressed since November due to health problems, in fact I've been rather stressed for a good few years, so I've been focusing on trying to switch off a bit more and relax. It's easier said than done. It's not just about doing something nice, it's about switching my brain off, which I'm finding hard to do, so I welcome any ideas you have to offer.

Hopefully as the weather gets warmer we can spend more time in the van, we've got a few trips booked which I'm very much looking forward to.

Post Comment Love 24th-26th March 2023 Ramadan Kareem

Welcome back to #pocolo with Stephanie from Lifeat139a and I.

Ramadan Kareem to all my Muslim Friends around the World. Having lived in Dubai for 7 years, we've observed Ramadan and I've been keeping an eye out the past two nights for the crescent moon. Although we're in the UK now and Ramadan does not affect our day to day life, it did have a huge impact on us whilst we were in Dubai in regards to being able to eat and drink in public during the day. We're in Dubai over the UK Easter Holidays and much has changed since we lived there, it will be interesting to see how things have changed for non muslims in regards to coffee shops and food courts going from being closed in the day when we first arrived to being screened. Our last Ramadan in Dubai in 2021 we noticed more and more places open and lots of screening removed.

Peter has been working hard outside levelling and preparing the ground to lay the patio, including a path around the new extension. Hoping for some more dry weather as the lawn is a quagmire and the dog is leaving muddy prints on the kitchen floor.

I received notification that I'd passed my probation at work and was now on a full time permeant contract, that is until Monday, when I start a new job, in the same school, still as a teaching assistant but with a slight pay rise and 1:1 with a student in the 6th form studying A level English Literature and Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics and on a temporary contract.

It's been. busy week, back to work and school, I work in a school. I've taken out membership at the local pool as I swim twice a week and after 6 swims the membership pays for itself. I've been 4 times this week.

It was my late fathers birthday this week, I totally forgot about it until a Facebook memory popped up, it's been 5 years since he died, I found the anniversary of his death in July particularly hard still, so in a way I was glad not to have remembered his birthday.

Yesterday of course in the UK was a sad day, hearing about the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Having a King will be a strange thing for most of us to get used to, I personally at the age of 51 have never known anything else other than The Queen.

Post Comment Love 4th-6th March 2022

How is it March already? It's a busy month for me. I've started a new job as a Teaching Assistant at a Secondary School. 

We celebrated St Davids Day (because I'm Welsh) which was shared with pancake day with our South African friends who were visiting from their home in Germany. Next up is Mothering Sunday, which will be spent with the outlaws. I'm hoping to treat myself to an afternoon tea. Then it's the cats 13th birthday, there will be presents, biscuits and small people joining in. The dog's birthday party will happen at the same time as we delayed it from last month.

Post Comment Love 25th-27th February 2022

I leave a comment on half the posts every week, as well as most weeks sending out a link to your post with the hashtag #pocolo. Many of you do follow the rules, but it gets a bit disheartening to comment on a few posts each week who never return the love. Which is the essence of Post Comment Love.

It's been a busy week for us with family, a trip to London to watch QI being filmed, more work in the kitchen, flat sale progressing and the hole in the roof is still there.

I start a new job on Monday as a Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School for 30 hours a week, term time only. I'm done with actual Teaching now, too much additional work to be done in your own time. I'm really looking forward to it and meeting new people. I will be wearing my mask in communal areas and when moving around the school.
