Why I don't drive a Ferrari

I can't afford one.

Nor do I want one.

Why?

You can't bloody go anywhere in one.

I've spent the past 16 years driving people carriers and 4 x 4's. To suit the needs of a family of 7 and living and working in rural areas and 4 years in South Africa where a 4 x 4 was a must with safari's, pot holes and safety and security when driving.

For 16 years I've dreamed of driving a car, just a normal car, a car for me, one where I don't have to fit pushchairs and a wheel chair in the boot along with shopping for the week.

I have a Peugeot 308, I bought it because it was in my price range and I could pay cash (I'm an expat, bank loans on a labour card are difficult) It does everything I need it to do. It has air con ( a must in Dubai) a radio and a CD player, which I don't use, automatic windows, cup holders, plenty of room in the door pockets, central locking and 4 doors. I can fit Bob in the hatchback if I remove the parcel shelf.

It's black, I've never chosen the colour of a car even when I buy one from new, once I've done my research on MPG, tyres and service costs, I've then looked at the internal layout, as above, and colour has never been a deciding factor.

I use my car to commute 30km to work everyday, back and forth, up and down. On a good day I can cross Dubai in 30 minutes, some days it can take 2 hours. I drive the Al Khail Road, it's a 10 lane highway and limited to 100km/p/h. Sheik Zayed Road is a 14 lane highway with the same speed limit. The smaller roads are between 60 and 80km/p/h. When you get out of Dubai the speed limit increases to 120 and 140km/ph.

But most of the time I drive below 100km/p/h. The roads are too busy to drive much faster, of course some cars do break the speed limit, but with cameras every few km, it could cost you a fortune with speeding fines.

So back to driving a Ferrari, or rather why I don't drive one.

Dubai has to be the most pointless place to own one, it's not a big city, there's no where to drive it and the roads are too busy. Unless of course you just want to pose, rev the engine and buy a new set of brake pads every month, but at least when you live in Dubai, you can afford the petrol to fill the tank up.

Week 3 - One Daily Positive and Project 366

Another busy week, I think I've got on top of the planning at school. I managed to leave on time on Thursday and haven't taken any work home with me for the weekend. Hubby has been working late this week and played golf on Friday while I cleaned the house and caught up with the washing and did some gardening. Another boring week of photos and some days I've had to find something to photograph for this post. But I've accepted the challenge and it's full steam ahead for the year. I'm not joining in with the linky this year, I wish it had been kept as a blog hop, that way I wouldn't have to acknowledge anyone in particular. I'm going to carry on visiting my favourite blogs from last year

Sunday Day 17 #onedailypositive #project366 This little mite lost its mate tonight in a road accident that I witnessed. A passer by stopped to help me rescue the one cat from the road who was sadly dead, hubby came with the cat basket and another passer by helped me catch this one. I took the cat to the vet who checked it over and it appears ok, no chip and is probably one of the many strays who live round here. On advice from the vet we are keeping this cat over night in an out building with fresh water and to let it go if it's ok in the morning near where we found it, but well away from the road. I'm so grateful to the passer by X 2 who stopped to help me and very moved by their care and concern.

My Sunday Photo this week was supposed to be a day of rest, until I popped to the shops and ended up rescuing a young cat whose Mother was hit and killed by a car.

Monday Day 18 #onedailypositive #project366 welcome to 'Suzanne's boring week of photos' I've taken two other photos today, one of soup and another of a pack of jelly and that's it. On a positive note though it means I'm busy and have things to occupy my time, such as work. I collected my new car today. I've gone from no car to 2 cars in the space of as many weeks. Will return the hire car on the weekend.

Tuesday Day 19 #onedailypositive #project366 whilst nursing a lemsip and reading a book in the bath I could hear a cry for help, that demanded immediate investigation. As far as I know she's still up there as the dog keeps barking for her to come down. They certainly keep me amused and entertained for hours.

For Animal Tales this week and HDYGG I linked up a post from my visit to Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.

Wednesday Day 20 #onedailypositive #project366 I don't know the last time someone bought me flowers, so I bought some for myself, and why not?

Thursday Day 21 #onedailypositive #project366 searching for something to take a picture of that isn't the Burj Khalifa or the dog. A child in my class gifted me some chocolates this morning and asked if I'd buy her a monkey. #random #LoveMyJob

Friday Day 22 #onedailypositive #project366 grrrrrr it's not often I tell the dog off but I am less than impressed with him after he decided to dig in the garden which he knows is a telling offence after I put some new plants in today, then ran through the house that I'd swept and mopped earlier and jumped onto the bed, which I'd put fresh sheets on earlier, leaving a trail of mud throughout the whole house. But he is cute and I can't stay cross with him for long which was the same length of time it took me to clean up his mess.

Saturday Day 23 #onedailypositive #project366 it's Dan's 21st birthday today, I've had a long and tiring week, hubby has been working late, I fancied a bit of time out of the house and had a bit of shopping to do so I visited Mall of the Emirates for the morning and spent the afternoon sorting through piles of paperwork.

Week 2 - One Daily Positive and Project 366

Another long and tiring week, every time I think I'm on top of all this paperwork, I find something else that needs doing. I'm determined that by the end of the month I won't be bridging any work home with me in the evenings....watch this space.
We managed to do everything we had planned for the week. The house seems rather quiet and empty now Jamie has returned to the UK, just another thing us expats have to keep doing and that is to say too many goodbyes.

Sunday Day 10 #onedailypositive #project366 Apart from 2 photo prompts, the only other picture I've taken today is of my hire car. Why? Because it's so damn small, I keep losing it/forgetting where I park. I do this often even with the 4x4 we own. In fact there have been many times I've caught public transport home from work or the shops for hubby to ask me where the car is as I've forgotten I'd driven there. It's makes me laugh, it frustrates Peter.
My Sunday Photo this week was a picture of the Address Hotel fire.

Monday Day 11 #onedailypositive #project366 I met hubby and Jamie after I finished work @globalvillageuae for a walk round and dinner. On leaving my hire car wouldn't start so I called the company who responded with 'Miss Suzanne, try putting the car in P for park' this obviously have many calls like this.

Tuesday Day 12 #onedailypositive #project366 Jamie has been here two weeks, it's his last night with us tonight and the cat finally decides to be civil towards him.
The cat has been acting weird again, too much change and she can't seem to settle as you'll see in this weeks Animal Tales.

Wednesday Day 13 #onedailypositive #project366 storm clouds over Dubai very much like my emotions this week the#teen and Jamie both returned to the UK this week, I've had little sleep with trying to organize work and home life.

Thursday Day 14 #onedailypositive #project366 we has post, was sent on time for Christmas from the UK but hubby has been off work so only collected it today. It's the weekend here, we went out for dinner, enjoyed dinner out and watched a movie. I have paperwork to do on the weekend, a food shop to do and coffee with friends, plus 2 weeks worth of soaps to watch.
I've not had much time to spend in the garden so I've been writing up old posts. This week's HDYGG? is a visit to South Africa late last year, Parks and Gardens in Pretoria.

Day 15 #onedailypositive #project366 I'll admit there have been moments when I've thought that working is just too much for me and I don't need it and I've spent all day planning and preparing future work, but I'm slowly getting into a routine and I can see the fog lifting slightly.

Day 16 #onedailypositive #project366 we went out for coffee and cake and bought a car. So far it's been a simple process, they took copies of my ID, a deposit by credit card, sent a driver to collect a cheque from us, they will do the registration once the cheque clears and deliver the car in 2-3 days time. All I have to do is get insurance and email a copy over to the garage.

Apart from the photo prompts for SnapHappybritMums and FMSPhotoADay and My month of mornings where I take a picture from the front doorstep of the view as I leave for work, this is the extent of the pictures I've been taking and I feel they are lacking excitement and interest to me, I must up the game next week.
