One Daily Positive - Week 45 Combating loneliness

Every time I think about the upcoming relocation, I get stressed out, so much to do, but apart from the paperwork and deciding on which relocation company we'll use, there's nothing that can be done until a week or so before the actual move.

I am decluttering, have some jobs lined up such as sorting through photo's and transferring old family videos. All the paperwork is up to date, the garden has been prepared for winter, all flights/trips booked and the week started with no house work to be done either.

I'm determined to enjoy the rest of the time we have living abroad, as I've spent the past 9 years waiting for the next move, next visitor, next trip away and not getting on with anything. The next 18 months are still uncertain for me, I'll be travelling between the UK and Dubai and renovating our UK home in preparation for Peter's retirement up to 3 years away.

I haven't been sleeping since Peter came home, but he's away again for 10 days. Every time I get into a routine with sleep, exercise, diet, it gets interrupted by Peter's job. despite living with constant change, it takes me a while to adapt to it. I fall asleep around 9pm and I wake around 3am, then I'm fighting sleep all afternoon, who cares when I sleep? so I often go back to bed around 2pm for an hour or two.

307 Sunday Was awake most of the night with a strange sensation in my bladder, pain in my left hip, my right eye was sore and my left jaw was aching. So got up at 4am and did the ironing and some blogging. Peter popped into work for a few hours and I went to the mall.

The only time I can use video calls is when Peter is at home using the company video conferencing. However when he's away it makes for a very long and lonley time cut off from all my family and friends other than the typed/written word.

308 Monday Dropped Peter at the train for his trip to South Africa, he's back on the 15th. Relocation company came to do a quote. Can't remember what else I did today.

309 Tuesday Went out to the Mall to do a bit of shopping and then off to the dog park with Bob and to meet a friend, unfortunately her dog is over friendly and Bob gets frightened when he feels cornered so I ended up separating them and leaving earlier. Sorted out the toiletries in the bathrooms and had a lazy evening. Decided to sleep in the spare room to see if a change of bed helps with my neck pain.

310 Wednesday Woke with a stiff back at 3.45am, made tea and drifted back to sleep till 7am. Had coffee on the way to the Doctors, then down to Kite Beach to see the flag display from Flag day which commemorates the ascension of Sheikh Khalifa as President of the UAE. Off to the pub quiz in the evening.

311 Thursday Another relocation quote and then I took myself off to Dubai Mall to go iceskating, it's been over 30 years since I've been on the ice and I stayed on my feet for 45 mins and loved it, will be going back next week. Cooked myself a roast dinner.

312 Friday Walked Bob, did some washing and changed the beds and hit the beach at 8.30am for 2 hours, lots of swimming and started a new book. The rest of the day, like yesterday was spent filling time, I tided the garden and swept sand, brought all the cushions in as rain is forecast, walked Bob again, read some more of my book. Had a bath at 7pm and watched youtube and went to bed at 8pm.

313 Saturday I slept till 6am, repotted house plants, back to bed with my breakfast and catching up with soaps, did some blogging, dressed, walked Bob and headed off to the Marina at 9am to meet a friend for coffee. Had a walk along the beach front and took some more photos for my construction photography project. Afternoon spent pottering around and some ironing then off out to Jumeriah Golf Estates for a Marshall event meeting ready for the Race to Dubai starting in 10 days.

One Daily Positive - Week 23. Eid Mubarak

Although Peter and I travel a lot, we don't have holidays together very often. I've been to the UK twice this year and Peter joined me for a week, but we had jobs to do, bills to pay and family to visit. Last month I was in South Africa, and although I had some time with friends and took myself on a self drive safari, my purpose for being there was to do some charity work. Later this month I'm off to Dublin with a friend then on to Northern Ireland to visit child 4 and 4a and next month I travel to Australia to visit child 3.

Ramadan finished on Monday and Peter had the week off for Eid so we treated ourselves to a two night stay in a hotel in Abu Dhabi. Bob went in for boarding and we left the cat at home with a clean litter tray, fresh water and plenty of food hidden around the house. I spent Monday night refreshing social media waiting for Eid announcement so I know what I can do on Tuesday in regards to eating and drinking in public.

153 Sunday Off to the dentists for the stitches to be removed and a deep clean, needed my whole mouth numbing. The rest of day was spent in bed feeling sorry for myself. We popped out to the mall in the evening for a walk, food court dinner and a coffee.
A new building at the World Trade Centre.

154 Monday Dr's at 9.30am for routine bloods, then collected Bob and visited the dog park for a couple of hours, then home to do nothing and a BBQ for dinner. Packed for our trip away.

155 Tuesday Up at 5am and hanging around waiting for a suitable time to drop Bob at boarding and set off to Abu Dhabi. Spent the afternoon on the beach and the evening in one of the bars.
Very few tall buildings in Abu Dhabi, more a traditional City.

156 Wednesday Had a long lie in thanks to black out blinds followed by a leisurely breakfast, time on the beach and a pub lunch followed by a massage and pool side and the evening spent in the pub.
Tidal sea water but an inlet, one of the many islands that make up Abu Dhabi

157 Thursday Left Abu Dhabi at mid day after time on the beach. We collected Bob on the way home. Pushkins was pleased to see us. In the evening we watched TV and just chilled out.
The Last exit food stop or drive through only in this heat, located on the border between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

158 Friday Coffee and food shop while Peter got the valve repaired on his tyre then off to brunch with friends at The Address Hotel in Dubai Marina, apart from that nothing else happened all day.
The hotel foyer.

159 Saturday A lazy day, too stuffed from yesterday to do much. Been thinking it's Saturday all week, I'm not used to Peter being off work. Spent 5+ hours wandering around Dubai Mall and only saw a small part of it.
The aquarium inside the mall.

After the fire. The Address Hotel.

Since these two photos were taken, the Address Hotel has undergone a full refurbishment after a fire on New Years Eve 2015.

You'll also notice the building on the left, which is part of Dubai Mall has altered from restaurant balconies to being filled in which is now the World's largest Apple Store.

Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Fountains 2014-2018

Both photos taken from the same spot on the bridge between the Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar, 4 years apart but with different cameras. The curved building bottom right on the first photo is now almost obscured by the new mall extension and you can see a couple of additional buildings behind.

My Sunday Photo Week 156 X is for Xmas in Dubai

Well here are the last of the photos of Christmas in Dubai. Apart from Christmas day itself which will be spent at the JW Marriott Hotel at the Gardens on the Sheikh Zayed Road, with all the food and drink you can manage, with a taxi both ways. Presents will be exchanged in the morning and the evening will be spent on the sofa, complaining that we'll never eat again.

Dubai Mall. I'm not impressed with this years decorations.

Next week is N for New Year, not sure what we'll be doing this year. Sort of seen it all and done it all the last 3 years spending New Year on the beach in Dubai watching the fireworks go off at the Atlantis and the Burj Al Arab. There's not a lot left in life that can top the experiences we've had here in the past 3 years, other than the 4 years before that living in South Africa.

Visit The Lost Chambers Aquarium, Atlantis Palm, Dubai.

I've visited the Aquarium at Dubai Mall on numerous occasions so thought I'd take my mother to explore The Lost Chambers Aquarium at the Atlantis on the Palm using the Entertainer 2 for 1 vouchers, when she visited in December. Entry to the Aquarium and the adjoining Aquaventure, water park, are free if you're a guest at the hotel, check their website out for offers, there's free entry to the water park during your birthday week.

We took a drive around the Palm to see the view, which is stunning, before entering the Aquarium. I really recommend you do this if you get the chance. Turn right at the top of The Palm to view the Marina.

Whilst the aquarium was stunning, it had nothing on the one at the Dubai Mall and I was slightly disappointed with the lack of information on the type of fish we were looking at.
Whilst lots of photos were taken we weren't in there very long. We didn't do a behind the scenes tour which involved an additional cost, but from now on I'll get my fish fix elsewhere.

We finished the visit with a walk along the Broadwalk and had dinner at Bob's. Ironically a fish and chip bar. There are some fantastic restaurants and coffee shops inside

I find watching fish very relaxing, even the photo's. Don't you?

Animal Tales and the cat has lost it's spot again

My mother is visiting, the cat and dog are happy to have her around as it means there is someone at home all day while Peter and I are in work.

There are strict instructions NOT to feed them, even though both of them will bother you until you do.

My mother is managing to ignore the cat's demands, however it keeps turning up randomly around the house and making her jump, like the bathroom.

Her resolve with the dog hasn't been as good and the dog has been 'sharing' yogurts and cheese sandwiches.

The cat and dog have their own bedroom, yes I know it's a luxury, but Peter and I live in a 4 bed house, so why trip over them all day and besides the cat has a habit of knocking on the bedroom door for attention during the night so we shut them both in their room so not to disturb our sleep.

The cat's sleeping place of the coffee table has been taken over by my mum, so we're back looking for her spot again, she's currently favouring random boxes and is back to demanding cupboard doors are left open for her to choose from.

I haven't seen our stray cat for a few days, I'm assuming it's found a house where someone will feed it, it's very friendly and has probably been a pet at sometime, if I see it again I may take it for a microchip check. Normally if it's lost there are posters around and I belong to several online animal groups, I'm assuming it was dumped.

With National Day over and Christmas on the way, the UAE is out in full force with their decorations, which include lots of animals. The Falcon is the national bird of the UAE and there are several light up ones at The Mall of Emirates.

My Mother loves her gardening so we visited Dubai Miracle Gardens

And of course no trip to Dubai is complete without a visit to Dubai Mall to see the aquarium, we won't however be visiting this one as you can see so much from the outside, but we'll be going to the one at The Atlantis on the Palm for an afternoon as I've not visited there yet.

Christmas is shaping up in our house, and while not technically real animals, it does involve some Panda's this year as my alternative to 'Elf on a shelf'
