We've had an amazing 3 weeks in Australia visiting our son and his girlfriend. We left on Thursday for a 14 hour flight to Dubai where we are visiting our old neighbourhood and seeing a couple of friends if time permits.

We're hoping to acclimatise to the time difference over the 5 days we're here as previously when we've stopped over in Kuala Lumpur or flown straight home, it's taken nearly 2 weeks to adjust to the 9 hours lost. There's only a 6 hour difference with Dubai, so it should help.

We've gone from 16c and rain to 40c and humidity. Australia has just come out of winter, but had almost 3 months of solid rain. We've walked around in full waterproofs, we've climbed a mountain in the snow and on Monday the temperature was 28c and I was swimming in the sea.

Apart from our visit to Tasmania for a few a days, all our time has been spent locally, exploring previous places we've enjoyed, discovering new walks and my highlight as always (apart from seeing child 3) are the koala's.

We're in Tasmania this weekend, flying for 2 hours from Sydney early on Thursday morning. We were awake at 3am and by 11am we were climbing Mount Wellington in a snow storm. My son's girlfriend had never seen snow so it was super exciting for her and for us, a joy to watch.

We're still in Australia visiting our son and his girlfriend. We arrived to the wettest and heaviest rainfall for 27 years, but it's dried out now and is around 20c in the day, dropping to around 10c during the night.

We don't have the best accommodation, just a room with kitchenette but we do have the best location.

We don't like spending a lot of money on hotels etc as when we're on holiday all we use the room for is sleeping. In a couple of weeks we'll be in Dubai, we do have a bit of luxurious stay booked.

The beach is a 10 minute walk from our accommodation and we can get on a bus and be in the City within 20 minutes. Everywhere else is reachable via a bus to Bondi Junction. 

We've seen the sights, done the walks, shopped and drunk endless coffees and read several books.

Bondi Beach, sunny but chilly.

Next weekend we'll be in Tasmania.

It's been a peculiar week with a neighbours car ending up in our front garden. We've been gardening, fixing windows, visiting family and seen friends. Lots of washing and hubbies favourite task of ironing has been done almost everyday. Lots of reading and a variety of crafts.

We've had a good week getting lots done in the garden and making the most of the weather.

I've had my nails done, had coffee with an ex student and her mother and bumped into lots of friends for random chats.

We kept the soil from the building work 2 years ago for this job and had to sift it and move it front the back garden. 8 wheelbarrow loads so far.

The tree stump finally rotted enough for us to remove it. The tree was cut down 5 years ago.

I've signed up to do a walk to raise funds for Bowel Research UK in memory of Stephanie our daughter.

Stephanie died on the evening of October 7th 2024. She was taken ill during the day. She had intestinal ischemia and did not survive the surgery.

One of the few things Stephanie did well was to walk, although she didn't do that until she was 8 years old. Walking was the only independence Stephanie had. 

We also have a grandson now 3 who was born with Hirschsprung Disease and I've recently been diagnosed with diverticulitis.

We're been visiting our grandsons this week, we're at a camp site about 15 minutes away. We've had the mornings to ourselves, then collected eldest from his nursery, been out for the afternoon, had dinner and done bath and bedtime.

We knew it would be a last minute booking due to numerous medical appointments for me, so we've sailed from Scotland this time. A 6 hour drive, plus stops and a camp the night either side of the trip, but the crossing was only 3 hours, rather than the usual 7 hours from Liverpool to Belfast.

I've had a job offer this week and going out on Saturday to celebrate with my current colleagues.

I shall be sad to leave them as time does move on quickly and whilst we've all promised to keep in touch, work and life will just get in the way. 

I had a lovely gift and card from a student last week and she also threw a little leaving party for me with snack and decorations.

I've mentored her for 3 and a half years and I've promised mum I'm happy to meet up with them both for a coffee occasionally as she goes into year 11 and prepares for her GCSE's. I'm in touch with another student I supported through A Levels.

What a lovely week we've had in Middle England. The sun has been out everyday and I've reopened my wardrobe that houses all my dresses and I've worn one to work everyday this week, teamed with a pair of sandals.

It's been lovely not having to fluff around with a cardigan/jacket and packing a waterproof just in case.

I've set the outdoor seating area up with seat cushions and a table cloth and been leaving it out all night. It gets a bit damp, but I don't mind when I take my tea out at 7am before work and enjoy the tranquility of the garden.

I've spent every evening in the garden reading, drinking Pimm's and had a friend round for a BBQ. 

Our granddaughter and a friend's dog is coming to stay for the weekend and we'll be off visiting an English Heritage Site and having another BBQ.

I had an amazing weekend in Paris with my friend, arriving late last Friday night and meeting on the platform at Notre Dame. we visited the Eiffel Tower, Notre dame, went to Pere Lachaise Cemetery, went on a Sewer Tour under the city and walked up the Champs Elyesse. There was champagne, cocktails, wonderful food, fantastic company and lots of catching up. My flight home was delayed and I got home at 1am on the Monday and I'm still playing catch up with my sleep, but it was worth it.

6th - 8th June 2025 - Post Comment Love

I got home from Northern Ireland last Friday night after a week with my grandsons. Saturday was spent with the other set of grandchildren and Sunday was spent just chilling out before going back to work. 

This is the closest I get to having all 4 of them together. A video call.

This weekend I'm in Paris meeting a friend who is flying up from South Africa. We met the same time last year. We've got lots of plans and don't think we have a minute of our trip free.
