August
We're staying with Turkish friends in Turkey for 12 days, joining them on their holiday just outside Bodrum. There's a small town with a daily market on the coast, plenty of restaurants and local shops and a pool. There is good wifi, but no access to watch the Olympics and instagram has been blocked along with the majority of VPNs. I'm also unable to upload photos on blogger at the moment due to local issues.
The place is overrun with stray cats and dogs but all look reasonably well fed and cared for by the locals.
218 Monday Had a lie in, then finished the packing, sorted out the cat for the sitter. Put the bins out and headed off to the airport for our holiday to Turkey. We flew with Jet2. A bit disappointed with the cleanliness of the flight, half a sandwich under the seat, but otherwise all good and uneventful. Arrived on time and collected by Peter's friend. Stayed up till 3am local time catching up, as it's been a year since they'd seen each other.
219 Tuesday Didn't get much sleep with the heat, dogs barking, cats fighting and 5am dawn chorus. No one else woke till after 9am, typical. I sat outside reading. We had breakfast then headed off to a local beach bar for the day. It was around 35c There was a stop at the shops to buy dinner to cook at home and I found a Caffè Nero. I made a video call with granddaughter to show her the variety of fruits growing in the garden. Bananas, pomegranate's and grapes.
220 Wednesday I woke with a migraine, a combination of lack of sleep, the heat and travel, so I opted to stay in for the day and rest while they headed off to the beach. I slept, read my book, slept some more and generally chilled out. In the evening we went for a meal out and visited a market and I was able to have a coffee.
221 Thursday We headed to a beach club mid morning, we swam, had lunch and in the late afternoon we used the pool. Peter and I lit a fire and he cooked some fish in the garden. I'm struggling being out all day in the heat and staying up late. My preference is to come and go during the day from the accommodation, but when you holiday with others, it is difficult, especially when where we are staying isn't on the beach and requires a car journey, also as they are locals they are acclimatised to the weather.
222 Friday I woke at 7 sat in garden drinking tea and catching up with blogging and commenting. We spent the morning cleaning the house and doing some washing. Peter and I then walked into the village to buy some shopping. I made myself a gluten free pasta salad. In the late afternoon we hiked to Champagne Bay for an isolated swim, then stopped for dinner on the way back. Evening spent sitting outside drinking and eating snacks and I finally found a way to watch the Olympics.
223 Saturday After a lazy morning and some breakfast we headed off to Bodrum to the local markets, then back to a beach near the apartment to swim and have a snack. Pool side for the afternoon and we cooked a cottage pie for our Turkish friends as he remembers having one as a child cooked by his friends British grandmother. I was in bed by 9pm absolutely exhausted.
224 Sunday Up early and off to the beach, we had a snack then back to the house for lucnh and a swim in the pool. I had fell asleep holding onto my tea and woke with a start spilling it over the bed. Everyone went for a swim and I stayed in the house watching the Olympics. We had a fire in the garden and cooked fish for dinner.

The holiday sounds lovely apart from the lack of internet access.
ReplyDeleteI bet it has been nice to catch up with friends. I don't think I would cope in the heat, it's 24c here today and it's far too hot for me outside. x
I got used to the heat very quickly, it was much cooler than Dubai and there was a gentle cool breeze which helped a lot.
DeleteTurkey looks beautiful, hope the rest of your holiday goes well
ReplyDeleteIt has been an amazing trip
DeleteI'd never cope with that heat although bet it was lovely with the swimming and seeing friends. The melon looks so tasty.
ReplyDeletewe were swimming in the sea every day, it has been a wonderful holiday
DeleteSounds like you're having a lovely holiday although I can imagine the heat must be difficult to get used to. Nice to stay with friends. Turkey looks beautiful. Love the swimming selfie! #project365
ReplyDeletethe heat did take some getting used to. It's been over 3 years since we lived in Dubai and had forgotten how difficult it was to be out in all day
