I'm taking some time for myself, just to be in the moment. I crave time on my own. Peter is away in Turkey with a friend. I have my son's dog for company and I'm still off work on bereavement leave.
We had so much booked and planned between October and the end of the year. We're usually last minute people due to Peter's job and it's taken almost 3 years for me to break the habit of him leaving everything till last minute to book now he's not working. He says it's me, but I've spent years waiting for him to confirm dates for meetings, business trips etc.All his work travel was booked last minute. I have set school holidays, there's no need to wait, so with a bit of persuasion I've managed to drag him round to my way of doing things. As a consequence with our daughter dying last month, we now find ourselves with things booked that at the time we just wanted to cancel, then a few weeks later wondering should we be doing them, now accepting that indeed, life does go on and our grief is with us regardless of where we are or what we are doing. We can be happy, there's no guilt to be had for doing something nice for ourselves.
Stephanie was our daughter, it is our grief and in the absence of family (adult children excluded, they lost their sister) we have to get on with it, just the two of us and find our own way to deal with her death.
