Mother of the Groom

I need help and lots of it. On a normal day, it's no make up and hair scrapped up in a ponytail. This photo however was taken after a couple of hours with a make up artist, hairdresser, a professional photographer and with excellent lightening and probably some editing as it was for a national newspaper.

I can do dressed up, I love having my nails done, not such a big fan with my hair and make up as I can never recreate the look, but don’t do too bad by myself.

Next year Peter is best man at a friends wedding. I bought a dress, have shoes, jacket and a bag and wasn’t bothering with a hat. I made a hair appointment for the morning and I was good to go.

But now child 2 and 2a have announced they’re getting married in June 2018. I’ve gone into meltdown, there’s so much to do. I need a hat, my dress is lovely but it’s NOT Mother of the Groom, it’s Wife of the Best Man.

I’m chilled out about any help, guidance, support that the Bride and Groom want or need. I’ve been shown the guest list, been asked for my input into the cake, wedding dress, photographer,  bridesmaids etc although these decisions will mainly be decided upon by the Bride and her family.

I’ll appreciate any and all help/advice please that you have for me and my choice of outfit, including where to shop and recommendations on what I should avoid wearing (other than a full on white dress of course)

  1. How exciting! I have no real advice as I am the worst at putting an outfit together! I hope you all have a wonderful day in June :) #TriumphantTales

  2. Ahhhh how exciting that your son is getting married!! Congratulations! Some people like both mums to have an outfit that matches the colour scheme of the wedding. John Lewis is always great for outfits as there are so many different brands under one roof and they have hats, shawls and bags also!
Thank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week.

  3. How exciting Suzanne! Is this the first of your children to get married? I know that your children are in many different corners of the world so I'm not sure where the wedding will take place. Climate will obviously have a big influence on what you wear. By our age we tend to have figured out what colours suit us so you could make that your starting point and make sure you don't clash with the bridesmaids! I personally love Phase Eight for formal occasion dresses (not that I go to many!!) Their lace layered and tapework dresses are really flattering and I always feel good when I'm wearing them.Keep us posted. Thanks so much for sharing with us at #TweensTeensBeyond

  4. Two weddings in one month Suzanne is a big deal! Maybe treat yourself to a personal shopping experience in a store where you can try on lots of different outfits and get some guidance along the way, plus if they know you have two occasions to cater for they will be able to mix and match the outfits! Look forward to hearing all about it. #TweensTeensBeyond

  5. How exciting! That time will go quickly.
I'm rubbish at stuff like this, so no advice from me at all. But hopefully someone else will have some sensible suggestions.

  6. Congratulations to 2 and 2a - you should be able to get a good baseball cap in Superdry to complement your outfit above :D Seriously, no idea or advice other than to feel comfortable with whatever you choose - if you're not comfy then I'm sure that comes through in the photos, and you'll be looking at those for many years to come. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo
