Week 37 One daily Positive and Project 365 2023 BMW PGA Championship.

Work has been stressing me out this week and I was only in for half the week. I don't need to know students personal details, but I do need to know what actions to take in case they're not in class, such as which adult to locate or where to send them and who to report it to. It's not helped by the fact it can take 20 mins to locate a computer and sign in, when we only have 5 minutes between lessons.

The second part of the week was spent back on the DP World tour in Surrey Wednesday to Sunday. Call times 6.30am on day 1 & 2. 9am start on Saturday.

I'm working with feature groups. There are 6 of us. A buggy driver, camera man, pole pointer, spotter (calls the shots for the studio) an on course commentator for Sky and myself as the mic holder. The 

254 Sunday Up at 5am and got the ironing done before it got too hot. I went to Worcester for coffee and some shopping, then home to dig up a shrub so I could dig a trench for Peter to put the lawn edging in. Rest of the day was spent tidying and putting things away and I set up an old TV for the grandchildren room. Evening spent blogging.

254 Monday Into work and home. Too hot to do anything, popped down my friends to wish her a happy birthday for the weekend and home to watch TV.

A most bizarre email from my bank. I have been with them for over 40 years.

256 Tuesday Home from work to pack my kit and the car. evening spent just reading and watching TV.

257 Wednesday Home from work, cup of tea and off to Wentworth. I'm staying in a B&B near by, should've gone with a Travelodge but that would involve a lot more driving and traffic , I'm only 6 miles away and it takes 10 mins each way.

258 Thursday Early start and so lovely to see so many people I've worked with before, only my 3rd UK event, but recognise so many from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Wow so many spectators, I could hardly get on the tee box or near the greens. We had breakfast and lunch on site and I called in to a supermarket on the way back to grab some salad, fruit, gin in a tin, snacks etc for the rest of the week.

I went out with Adam Scott, Tom Kim and Billy Horschel.

259 Friday 6.45am start for me, but the golf was delayed due to fog, instead of coming off air at 2pm, we were on till 4pm and it was chaotic with us and full sets of world feed crews. So many cameras on the course to try and avoid. I got frowned and tutted at several times, managed to annoy a golfer who is easily annoyed and let everyone know his annoyance. It was almost 7pm when I got back so showered and straight to bed falling asleep by 9pm.

I went out with Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose and Robert Macintyre.

260 Saturday Grandchild's 4th birthday. Child 2 collected hubby for the day as I have the car. It's about 3 times a year we could do with a second car and it's always if I'm away. I had a lie in as call time wasn't till 9am.

I went out with Shane Lowry, Adam Scott and Rasmus Hojgaard.

I'm away this week in Surrey working at The BMW PGA Championship Golf. I'm working as a TV assistant out on the golf course capturing sound working with feature groups. I walk the course with the golfers up close from the tee to the green capturing sound for the TV feed which is provided for The Golf Channel and Sky. We often 'go live' to a shot or a player, so I have to be 'on the ball' continuously, so I have to pick up all 3 shots for each hole, which can involve a lot of running and an occasional lift on a buggy. I've also got to avoid the cameras. I work with a camera crew, but there are cameras on the course and other camera crews that just pop up on the course. Tee shots are the easiest as I have time to get on the tee in time. The fairway shots can be spread out and the green shots are tricky, trying to avoid the bunkers, the cameras and find the right spot to get all the sound.

What I'm reading in September

I read 14 books in August whilst on holiday. There were books in our accommodation and I purchased an additional three from charity shops, which we left behind and I found one in a bin, Private Down Under - James Patterson, that I didn't end up reading, which has been added to Septembers list along with The Dark Room - Sam Blake

Some of the books I read.

 

Most of the books I read are from friends and family and they get passed around. I also borrow books from the library and read recommended books in school.

For September I'm reading books that are half finished POSH, The Great Gatsby, (from July) Tess of the D'urbervilles (from June)  and Don Quixote (from February). For English A level we are also reading King Lear.

So far this year I've read the following:

January

Lord of the Flies - William Golding. Re read from O level days

To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee. One of those books everyone should read

A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens. Re read from O level days

Off Mice and Men - John Steinbeck. Re read from O level days

Macbeth - Shakespeare. Re read from O level days

The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood. Never watched the TV series, but the book was brillant

A Streetcar Named Desire - Tennessee Williams. One we all think we know till we read it.

Frankenstein - Mary Shelly. The hardest book I've read to date, takes ages to get going through a series of letters.

February

Three Men in a Boat - Jerome K Jerome. Loved this book so much, a travel guide to the Thames.

Good Eggs - Rebecca Hardiman. Light and easy read.

March

Pippi Longstockings - Astrid Lindgren. A childhood favourite.

Five on a Treasure Island - Enid Blyton. A childhood favourite.

The Tempest - Shakespeare. Read the summary first to get an understanding of the plot, characters came to life.

Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevenson. A bit boring, had to persevere.

April

Agatha Raisin Terrible Tourist - M. C. Beaton. Quick read in a day.

Anything Could Happen - Lucy Diamond. A life that could've gone either way, all the 'what ifs?'

Home Truths - Susan Lewis. Dealing with your husbands murder and blaming your son who then becomes a missing person.

The Wild Roses - D.B. Carter Three friends in the mid 80's making different choices and following the paths they lead.

Oranges are not the only fruit - Jeanette Winterson. Absolutely loved the BBC drama with Charlotte Coleman back in 1991. A young woman growing up with the church and not conforming with mothers expectations of her.

The Enemy - Lee Child. Exploring Reachers military days.

Robinson Crusoe - Daniel Defoe. My fathers book given to him by his Granny in 1947.

Restoring Grace - Katie Fforde. Easy read about lost love and new beginnings.

Follow Me Home - Cathy Woodman. A light hearted story about finding new love.

Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell. Hard to get going, but once engaged the pages just raced past.

When Breath Becomes Air - Paul Kaplanithi. Pauls' story as a Neurologist discovering he has brain cancer, how he deals with the treatment, life and ultimately his death.

Five Go Adventuring Again - Enid Blyton. I've been reading this book alongside a mentee in school and we've been comparing childhood with the now and the then.

Postmortem - Patricia Cornwell - Making sure my windows are locked during the hot weather

Blue Moon - Lee Child - Quite a lot of graphic violence but good plot line

The Hobbit - J R R Tolkien Very different to my childhood memory of reading this book, probably because all I can see now as I read are the characters as they were portrayed on TV

Malory Towers - Enid Blyton 'Your people are here' Parents arrive to collect their daughter from boarding school

The American Dream 1965 - Norman Mailer A very violent read, stuck with it as it is relevant to the A Level curriculum

F. Scott Fitzgerald - Andre Le Vot More of a book to reference and understand

Again, Rachel - Marion Keyes I've read these books completely out of order.

Blow Fly - Patricia Cornwall Read out of order, her niece, Lucy is now an adult and playing an active role in the case.

The missing years - Lexie Elliot A proper page turner, read in a day.

No Plan B - Lee Child Typical Reacher

Past tense - Lee Child The story seemed so disjointed but typical Reacher.

The invisible man - HG Wells Hard reading

It started with Paris - Cathy Kelly  Following several families as they suffer loss, find love and intertwine

Head over heels - Jill Mansell Pop star discovers he'd fathered a child on moving to a new town and meeting and falling in love with his ex.

Week 36 - One Daily Positive and Project 365

It was back to school for me on Monday, 2 inset days then year 12 and year 7 start. Can't believe my year 7's will be year 9's this week, time goes so fast,

What a glorious week it has been weather wise. I nearly put the fans up in the loft over the weekend, glad I didn't as they've been on every night.

Peter has been working in the garden, adding an extension to the patio he built earlier this year so all our chairs can be used properly without the risk of toppling over.

It's been too hot to do much after work and I've already worked an additional 6 hours.

247 Sunday Up at 10am and off to the Maize Maze with Peter, DIL, grandchild and Bob. It was a lot of fun with puzzles to solve and clues to collect as we went round. Son then joined us at a local market for coffee and a snack. Family left around 8pm.

248 Monday Back to school and meetings most of the day, I ended up staying half an hour later to email my students their new timetables and contact parents with arrangements for Thursday, Evening spent watching TV, folding washing and eating chocolate from the neighbour as a thank you for looking after their cat. Her children were excited to see us.

249 Tuesday Rode my bike to work for the first time since November and my achilles injury, which still hasn't healed but wasn't affected by the bike ride. Too hot to doing anything other than a quick food shop, cold tea, watched Netflix and did some blogging.

250 Wednesday I cycled to work again and back. In the late afternoon I tidied garden.

251 Thursday Drove to the pool for swimming. Peter and Bob came with me in the car, then walked home. Peter ordered wood and was 2 tight to pay for delivery, so after work we carried 2 of 5 planks of wood, 3 meters long, they were heavy and we were hot.

We are both fed up with the garden, but the patio and edging is almost finished now.

252 Friday I walked to work and had a lift home. Back to the timber merchants for the rest of the wood, then I popped to the supermarket for tomorrows picnic. We had a BBQ. No Friday night wine and chips this week or next.

253 Saturday It's grandchild's 4th birthday next weekend, but I'll be at Wentworth at the PGA Championship Golf and I will have the car so hubby won't be able to go, so we celebrated today instead with dinosaur themed food, decorations and a piñata. We had chips for tea, Bob came with us and we were home around 9pm.

No changes here for me, other than back to school. It's been long week and very hot, but thankfully the buildings are nice and cool inside.

I've not done much this week outside work hours, just enjoying the evenings, reading, watching TV and resting.

Peter. has been working in the garden finishing off the patio and re edging the lawn and then we will take the 2old sheds down and start on the raised flower beds. The cement mixer goes back to our daughter in laws tomorrow. 

Delivery of the wood for edging wasn't till next week so we walked home with 2 pieces of timber 5 meters long from the near by wood merchants. I think we saw everyone we know as we were carrying it and several students from school.

Nelsons Bay - Australia

We arrived in Australia the 24th July and spent a week in Melbourne, then flew to Proserpine to spend a week in the Whitsundays for a week where we visited the Great Barrier Reef, then onto Sydney for a week, 2 days in the Hunter Valley, 3 nights in Nelson Bay followed by our last 3 nights on Bondi Beach. We fly home via 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur.

We thought Nelsons Bay was going to be a leisurely break but our son had other ideas for us which involved climbing Tomaree Mountain. It's summit is 161 meters above sea level and only a distance of 1.1km, so it's very steep and categorised as a Grade 5 hike.

Nelsons Bay and area was full of Pelicans, they kept their distance as did we, but they're obviously used to the number of people who visit this area.

The rocks were covered with these tubes that looked like ice cream cones and squirted out water as the tide receded. They're called Cunjevoi or Sea squirts.

Week 35 One Daily Positive and Project 365

Bizarrely I've had no jet lag at all. We went straight to bed after a bath on Saturday and I woke around 3am and went into the spare room, waking again at 7am, Monday and Tuesday I stayed in the spare room, waking around 5am and on Wednesday afternoon I had a nap to catch up with the missed sleep since getting back home.

We had unpacked and put everything away and all the washing and ironing was done by Tuesday, including the neighbours. Peter cut the lawn 4 times to reduce the jungle it had become and I harvest the things I'd been growing that had been neglected for 5 weeks.

I'm struggling to get hold of the consultant for my gene mutation test results, however they have sent a face to face appointment for October, this will be the first time I've met him since transferring from Dubai in 2020.

240 Sunday We went for coffee at 9am and waited for the supermarkets to open at 10am to do a food shop. I took the dog for a walk and we unpacked. We briefly saw our neighbours before they left for their holiday to thank them for looking after the house and the pets.

241 Monday Friend popped up Monday for tea, I took Bob for a long walk around the fields. You'd never realise he'd been so poorly recently.

242 Tuesday Visited Child 1 in Gloucester, took her shopping and out for lunch. Spent the evening ironing.

243 Wednesday Opticians at 9am, coffee, some shopping and my B12 at the Doctors. I collected Peter and Bob and we had a picnic lunch and walk at Witley Court.

Not a bad haul considering the garden had been neglected for 5 weeks.

244 Thursday Ran the hoover round next door and caught up with some blogging. Visited my Year 13 Student who has been unwell over the holidays and then collected Peter before driving to Bristol to visit his mum.

The neighbours cat doesn't let me get too close.

245 Friday Round the neighbours to hoover, mop and a tidy round. Rest of the morning spent doing the gardening, cutting back shrubs, weeding and emptying pots. Headed to town in the afternoon to the Death Cafe and evening spent with friend over wine with chips.

246 Saturday Beds made and extension furniture rearranged to make more space, putting the unit up in grandchild's room, giving them a better place to play. Had my nails done Barbie pink, then bought food for their visit. They arrived at 6pm in time for tea and grandchild loved their new room.

The dog loves seeing our grandchild, the cat can't get out the house quick enough.
