It's always a worry when the Burj Khalifa isn't visible, we call it Armageddon day. Most of the past week has been, cloudy, windy, rainy or sandy. But Friday all 4 occurred at the same time, with visibility dropping, localised flooding and the house filling up with sand, covering every, single, surface.
We were woken at 4am Saturday morning with a terrific crash and flash of light, thinking an aeroplane had crashed, but no, it was thunder and lightening, a rare occurrence for Dubai.
There was snow up in Jebel Jais last week, a 2 hour drive from Dubai and the highest point of the UAE.at 1,943 meters, just over double the height of the World's tallest tower.
Despite the poor weather, it's a pleasure to have it. But it's still been very warm around the mid 20c and very muggy.
Summer isn't far away, thankfully I'll dodge the worse of the heat this year as I'm in the UK from mid June till mid October.
Dubai has always struck me as a place of extremes and that goes for the weather as well. I recall seeing sand storms elsewhere but to block out the Burj Khalifa must be quite something.

DeleteDubai is my happy retreat from Saudi, but you are right about the awful sand and poor air quality--I was disappointed to visit the Burj only to find the views quite poor from the top. We have much the same in Saudi and 5 days of rain left us flooded, streets closed, errands unable to be run and lot's of mess. There is no drainage infrastructure here.
ReplyDeletethere's no drainage infrastructure in Dubai either, but we only have 2-3 days of heavy rain, this is the first sand storm we've had in ages. i suppose we're lucky with the views from the Burj as we can pick a date depending on the weather, however not so good for visitors popping through. I hope the weather in Saudi clears up soon

DeleteMy friend in Abu Dhabi was telling me about the weird weather and how it has felt so cold some days. Hope it gets better. So weird you can't even see Burj al khalifa some days!
