A Social Media free Wedding. Our first son got married.

Our first child got married on Saturday. Child 2 & 2a, Andrew and Gemma tied the knot at Bream Church on June 2nd, with the reception afterwards at the Inn on the Wye.

Andrew and Gemma hired a photographer and the official wedding photos can be found over on Facebook at Caz Holbrook Photography The Vicar requested we focus on the ceremony and not take photographs during the service, but we had plenty of opportunities to grab a few snaps, before and after as well as throughout the Reception.

The Inn on the Wye is located in the Wye Valley and when it comes to 3G in and around that area it is  'dead spot' and guests had to use the landline to call for taxi's at the end of the evening.

Every one was focusing on the moment, phones came out for photo's and I videoed their first dance, but no one was then editing and posting online. In fact no one posted anything until Caz posted the wedding preview, that she'd arranged to do with the Bride and Groom on facebook on Sunday which we've all been sharing.

Here are a few pictures we took during the day, can't wait to see the final professional ones.

Caz is my old school friend from the age of 11, so I might sound a little biased, but she did an amazing job on Saturday, most of the time I was completely unaware of her presence during the service and reception, but we did manage a sneaky catch up during the day.

  3. Wedding photography is hard to do and I don't envy anyone that job. I do love candid photos though and I think my favorite is of the bride drinking something delicious out of a mason jar.

  4. I don't hate social media, obviously - I'm a blogger! However, I hate hate hate it when people are using it on social occasions when they should be enjoying the moment so what a great idea to book the reception in a place where there is no reception!! Lol. Fab. #tweensteensbeyond

    1. i don't think it was done intentionally, the bride and groom aren't big users of social media anyway

  5. Lovely photos. Great idea, when a work colleague married 2yrs ago - big big wedding, and she's the queen of social media.... they politey asked that no-one took any photos/videos & asked people to switch off their phnes in the church & no-one to post any photos until they had done so the following day. Was great idea. you saw people enjoying the ceremony etc rather than their heads down on phones!.

You saying about doing it again later. My parents married April 1966, my father's sister married in the June & his youngest brother in the September. My grandmother wore the same outfit to all 3 and apparently said "this is my 1966 wedding outfit" and never wore it again!

    1. too be fair most people would only be seeing my outfit from what i post online. I'd never dream of posting pics or making announcements of anyone else news until they had done so

  6. Congratulations to your son and his new bride! It looks like a beautiful day. I imagine a social media free day was a little odd for some but what a great incentive to encourage guests to enjoy the moment #keepingitreal

  8. What a lovely wedding, congratulations to the new couple! Loved your dress, you looked lovely! You were very lucky with the weather too! Many parts of Wales have no signal including the area around my Mum's near Builth. It is quite refreshing actually! Thanks so much for sharing with us at #TweensTeensBeyond

  9. Hi Suzanne, being in a 'dead spot' sounds like a blessing in disguise. The amount of people I do see on phones at some weddings is verging on rude sometimes (or is that an age thing?). The photos you took are lovely and I did just pop over and take a sneak peek at the professional ones and they have captured the day beautifully.

Thank you for linking up with #keepingitreal.

  12. Suzanne, you look beautiful - just look at you and your lovely family. How very proud you must feel. Things are so much better when enjoyed through the naked eye rather than that of the lens. Memories are timeless and for that very reason I totally agree with the banning of phones etc on these occasions. There is nothing like being 100% present and on a day like this, that is precisely what you wanted to be doing. The photos are there and that is why we pay people to do these things. I'm so glad it went well. Thanks for sharing with #tweensteensbeyond

  14. Ah, congratulations to him and his new wife. Looks like it was a lovely day and I like the idea of no social media. One of my major bugbears is an event like a wedding where photos of the day appear on social media before the bride or special guest has shared themselves!
#tweensteensbeyond sorry for this comment being late. I have been ill!
