Week 36 - Project 365

It's hot here, very hot and I'm suffering with cabin fever. I'm stuck indoors all day every day, even when I go out, it's to a mall. I'm off to the UK next week and never have I felt so isolated and so far away from anyone and everything that matters. We do still brave the weather and get out every Friday morning around 6.30am for an hour or so with the dog to the lakes in the desert. My Sunday Photo this week is a picture of the desert.

We welcomed a new baby into the family on Monday, my 2nd great nephew, Oliver. While my sister and my parents have all had a 'new born' cuddle I'm still waiting for mine. When my niece was born 4 years ago and my 1st great nephew almost 2 years ago, I had to wait several months to see them, this time it will only be a few weeks.

Sunday was spent at The Mall of Emirates, as I was desperate to get out, but all I did was replace one indoor spot for another, had a coffee and did some last minute shopping for gifts to take back to the UK.

Well it may be the weekend outside of the Middle East, but Sunday is a normal working day and also marks the first day back at school here in Dubai. Our weekends are spent taking Bob to the lakes in the desert on Friday mornings, we pop out for brunch and tend to spend the evenings watching TV, Saturdays involve a lie in, breakfast at home and a coffee out and food shop around midday, then an afternoon and evening of sport. But seeing as I don't work and hubby works from home a lot, I no longer have any real idea of days, weeks or even the time. I do spend my Sunday's catching up with linkys and blog comments and reading other peoples blogs, today is no different I just happen to be doing it with a Cup Cake for moral support.

Monday I was without a car so had to miss the expat ladies coffee morning. Having stayed up late to wait until I knew my niece was on the labour ward I woke at 8.45am to a message from a friend asking 'Do you want to go to soft play? I'll collect you at 9.30am' I rather like soft play and although these days are far behind me, it is nice to be with children and play without the hassle of dealing with all the traumas including missing socks and shoes. I get asked a lot about the cost of living in Dubai, the cup cake cost AED20/£3.50 I have no idea how much one like that would cost me in the UK anymore.
Day 243 #onedailypositive #warm #fmsphotoaday #moon #snaphappybritmums #project365
I'll be happy with being warm right now rather than just bloody hot all the time. The temperature drops below 40c at night to low 30's but with the drop comes the humidity and it's unbearable.

Tuesday was spent on the internet booking hotels, car hire and a train ticket for hubby when he joins me in the UK. I also had to pay the school bill, top up the toll card. I hate booking travel related items, I'm always worried I'm going to input the wrong dates and end up with no where to stay or miss flights. I'm not sleeping very well at the moment and I guess this is down to lack of exercise. In South Africa I swam every day, walked the dog twice a day and was more generally active. Joining the gym isn't an option due to the cost and the sea is too hot for swimming and it's just too hot to go for long walks. The animals are struggling also, they want to be outside but can't manage it for too long. The cat is restless, is only eating dog biscuits at the moment and just not settling anywhere. I started filtering skittle vodka shots for a birthday present for Thursday.
Day 244 #onedailypositive #InMyWardrobe #fmsphotoaday #New #snaphappybritmums #project365
I need new shoes, the glue keeps melting in the ones I've got. #SummerInDubai

Wednesday and I'm still not sleeping and to make matters worse I'm waking up during the night hungry and eating and putting on weight and not exercising and getting headaches. I managed to get out into the garden to move a few pots and get the golf clubs into the storage shed as they are getting very dusty in the garage. I baked some dog biscuits for the weekend as I'm going to sell them on Friday mornings to raise some funds for my trip to South Africa. I also baked some cakes and filtered the vodka and decorated the gifts. By the time I'm cleaned up I was literally melting. I popped out to the ATM, which retained my card and dropped off the birthday present.
Day 245 #onedailypositive #HappinessIs #fmsphotoaday #shoes #snaphappybritmums #project365 Yesterdays glue just didn't stick and the shoes have gone in the bin. So I guess I'll need to go shopping for a new pair. But in the meantime it's time to get some more wear out of the ones I've got.

Thursday and it was coffee morning with the expat ladies, followed by a spot of shopping for the weekend. I finally gave in and dyed my hair, I was going to see how long I could go with the greys, but my hair is just looking so dull, dry and it is frizzy with the humidity. Had an argument at the bank about my card, they say 3-5 days before it's returned, great I leave for the UK in 4 days. Out with a friend and her husband for her birthday, fantastic company, a few drinks and a late night. It's the 10th anniversary of my Gran's death next month which always gets me reminiscing about how proud my Gran would've been of our travels and life abroad, so I thought I'd show you some of my Gran's travels in this weeks #TimeTraveller.
Day 246 #onedailypositive #bedtime #fmsphotoaday #stationary #snaphappybritmums #project365 I'm going to do my very best tonight to stay in bed all night.

Friday morning was spent out in the desert with Bob at the lakes, we popped out for coffee at the local garden centre to check out the prices of some plants. Then off to Times Sqaure to price up the repairs we need to do to the bikes we've been given. I've been enjoying looking through old photos this week and as it's been too hot to do any gardening I've been exploring the Gardens of my Childhood.
Day 247 #onedailypositive #MyPassion #fmsphotoaday #sunshine #snaphappybritmums #project365
I have many passions that the constant sunshine is preventing me from doing, but that doesn't mean I can't learn to enjoy other things, such as planning, designing and making ready for when I can get back into the garden.

Saturday is never really planned, it is a day of lie in's, junk food, coffee and/or lunch out, an afternoon of sport on the TV, a couple of beers or glasses of wine. In the morning I went to The Sheraton Hotel at The Mall of Emirates for The Annual ExpatWoman's Living in Dubai. We went to Del's birthday pool party in the evening. Del is a 3 legged dog and Bob's friend. It was just an excuse for a get together and we met some lovely people and had a fantastic evening.

  2. That's a lovely photo of you at the end. Sorry to hear that you're struggling with things at the moment. It will be such a relief to you to get back to people you love and cool temperatures. I know I couldn't cope with being stuck inside and unable to exercise.

    1. It is a bit disheartening but we still manage to get out when possible, the photo was taken last night after one drink too many with friends

  3. Sounds like quite a struggle. I guess it will cool a little in a month or so. I don't think I'd cope well with that sort of heat - such a pity there isn't a reasonably priced gym around.

  6. I must admit I can be quite a hermit but there is nothing worse than not being to go out when you want too. I hope your trip to the UK makes up for it. I'm sure it will be so much cooler lol. Lovely photo at the end x

  10. Hope you had a good journey over to the UK and that your week is going well :) Although our temperatures are nowhere near as extreme as yours, it was mid 30's this week with high humidity and the kids are back at school, with no AC! It's been a tough week for us... Having said that, it's cool and wet today and we're all complaining about that too!
