Once we a week hubby and I take Bob into the desert for a run a round and a splash in the artificial man made lakes that are cooled and filtered to encourage the wildlife. I've seen Plovers and Doves on a regular basis but this is the first time I've seen a Heron
Now in the title I mentioned Herons and Cranes. I'm easily confused with birds so I googled to make sure I identified the birds correctly. I believe this is a Great Blue Heron, my google search needed to be fine tuned a little as when you google 'Cranes in the desert in Dubai' this is what pops up.
My photo, not google
Yes, that is a blue heron.
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteThese are some fabulous pictures Chicken Ruby! I'd love to go and do some photography of nature! :) Angela #Animatales
ReplyDeleteall the animal tales posts are just me out and about doing my normal things and looking for animals/birds to photograph
Deletehaha cranes in the dessert is technically not wrong :p some lovely pictures here, I think they are weirdly cute!! Thanks for sharing #AnimalTales
ReplyDeletethank you, i think I'm going to start taking more pictures of building works in dubai
DeleteI saw my first lilac breasted roller last week, in Madikwe! Funny that you see them there too - it's like the swifts, I always wonder if we are seeing the sames ones that we saw in the UK in the summer :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any when i was in SA last month, but was surprised at how many other birds i saw there that i can also see here
DeleteI would have loved to be able to check bird rings as like you we were convinced that the birds we saw in Nigeria over Chrstmas were the ones we saw flying south over the Channel coast earlier in the year.
DeleteIt looks so dry and hot there, it must be quite hard for the birds, but I guess they adapt, they certainly look healthy in your photos #AnimalsTales
ReplyDeleteit's much cooler now, in the high 20s, the flamingoes have just arrived back, but from where i have no clue
DeleteExcellent flight shots of the Heron. I could do with some of that sunshine too.
ReplyDeletethank you, I've been out today looking for a better zoom lens for my camera
DeleteWonderful captures of the herons. How good to hear that they are making a concerted effort to attract wildlife in Dubai with cooled man made lakes! Now if only we could have some warmed lakes here in UK for humans :)
ReplyDeletethank you, it is nice here that finally the water temps are cooler than the air temps, esp the cold water tap and the sea
DeleteThey are stunning photographs and what a lucky catch!
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteWhat a lovely sight and great photos too :)
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late comment, your blog decided to default to magazine layout and my brain was a bit slow figuring out how to change it!
I've been fiddling around with the blog design and may have mucked things up a little
DeleteIt shows how well birds and animals can adapt to the heat when they can live without air conditioning. Apparently humans do also adapt and I bet you are much better able to cope in Dubai than I would be. Nice cranes for #AnimalTales BTW :)
ReplyDeletei'm looking through all my hippo pics for you now
