New Housing Development, Malvern. QinetiQ Site. Construction photography.

Viewed from the Malvern Hills the old QinetiQ site, cleared for the development of 310 homes.

Construction was stopped in October 2020 after a breach of a number of planning conditions covering a range of technical and environmental matters.

As and when constructions resumes I have found 3 view points where my view for photographing the development which shouldn't be interrupted by other developments. From the top of the Malvern Hills as long as it's a clear day, the main entrance from the road and the end of a public footpath, where I lifted my phone up over the wooden fence for the photo below.

All 3 photos taken from the same direction.

I suspect it'll be quite some time before I am able to update this photography project while the dispute is ongoing and suspect it will take a lot longer than than they do in Dubai to finish and have clear 'before and after' photos.

There's quite a bit of activity going on over the past 4 months. I suspect my chosen points will be obscured soon, so I've choosen a new point, looking back up to the Malvern Hills and I'll get up on the hills soon to take another photo looking back down.

Dubai Water Canal - Tolerance bridge

This is Tolerance Bridge at the Dubai Water Canal.

I spent a week in the UK in October 2016, before I left the supports were in place, on my return the bridge was up as it is now.
The Bridge has a 180’ high arch supporting a 690’ long and 20’ wide meandering pedestrian and cycling path below.
The bridge was inaugurated by Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak, Minister of State for Tolerance on International Day of Tolerance 2017, which falls on November 16th each year.

View of the area, from Safa Park, after the canal was dug, but before it was filled with water. Construction started in 2014.

Since the opening of the footbridges across the canal, work has then started on the building of new accommodation, restaurants and hotels along the newly created water ways.

Al Furjan Construction Project

Four years ago this month we moved to Dubai, I noticed very quickly how fast Dubai was growing with the addition of new roads and buildings and started to photograph the changes.

A year ago this month we moved to a new area in Dubai called Al Furjan, the growth here has been astronomical, they've constructed a new line of the metro which is behind me in this photo and over a 4km stretch of road, built 4 new stations.

In the two pictures taken almost 1 year apart, you can see how quickly the area is growing. The buildings are either side of a new road which when finished joins the Al Yalasis Road to the Al Asayel Road saving us 20km and up to 30 mins of driving time inland and to the malls/drs/airport/dog park.

The area you're looking at in the photos is the top of the large oval yellow section in the picture below, the train line runs along the Discovery Gardens Road.

Although the My Sunday Photo linky is coming to an end, I will be continuing with my construction projects in Dubai and updating and adding new posts as I go. My SundayPhoto hashtag will continue over on Instagram and every year I've taken part I've had a theme. This years was construction, I did and A-Z project and the first year I posted my favourite picture each week. For 2019 I've decided to frame Dubai, an idea I've pinched from John Adams who blogs over at DadBlogUK.

If you're interested in seeing the other construction projects in 2018, click on the links below. They're mainly based in Dubai, but I've included photo's from Egypt, the UK, South Africa and the US.

Building with Bamboo. Construction project in Hong Kong.

On a visit to Hong Kong last year, we noticed a lot of scaffolding on buildings where they were being repainted and maintained, on looking closer we discovered the scaffolding was made from bamboo and most of it was fairly complex in it's design.

I had no idea bamboo was actually this strong and I'm assuming lighter to use, especially when you see the video below of the construction workers assembling it all. Nylon straps tied into knots
are used as couplers.

Building work in South Wales

It's not just Dubai that I'm photographing in regards to construction, although it does happen a lot faster over there than any other where I've experienced.

These photos were taken on a wet and windy day in Monmouth, shortly before I left the UK to escape winter.

The land here is used by a variety of people for local businesses, taxi company, artist, car maintenance and parking. The land has been bought by a developer and notice has been given to vacate by the end of 2018.

This is the view from the communal landing. I can see the castle from the bedroom, but this is a much better place to document the changes from.

Outside the lounge window. The access road will be going through here, the house opposite is losing a parking space, with agreement at time of purchase, and I'll assume our fence will be removed also. There's been no further information given to any of the residents since the initial proposal was submitted and only heard about the land being vacated in the local pub.

I'm returning in February 2019 and I look forward to seeing what, if anything has changed on my return. I'll update you then.

Then and Now Al Furjan Community

I flew back to Dubai this week. I've been in the UK since the end of May, I'll be back the start of October for our final wedding of the year. I'm only in Dubai for 2 weeks as I'm visiting our old home in South Africa. I didn't get the chance to visit last year after the sudden death of my father and I'm very much looking forward to catching up with my friends, reconnecting with the charities I worked with and hopefully a safari or two.

I'll be continuing my before and after photo's in both Dubai and South Africa. It will be interesting to see how much has changed in the past 2 years, although I doubt it will be as dramatic as the changes over the past 3 months in Dubai.

The top photo in each picture was taken prior to June 2018, the bottom one in each set was taken September 2018. You'll see some really big changes in some of the photo's, in others, not much has altered in the 3 months I've been away.

Dubai Metro Station

I started documenting the new metro line and station at Discovery Gardens back in November 2017.

When this photo was taken in January, I had no idea where the station was going to be located, turns out it's right where the piece of yellow machinery is.

I wrote a post back in June with photo's of the stations development which you can find here.

Peter has continued to take random photos for me while I'm in the UK, I suspect by the time I get back in October it will be complete, although the line isn't due to open until early 2019.

It doesn't look like much has been done over the past few months, but just take a look at the first picture and see how much they've done in 7 already.

Dubai Metro Station Al Furjan.

This is one of the two new Metro stations being built in Al Furjan where we live in Dubai. It's the new line for the 2020 expo and will be opened in January 2019.

I started photographing the progress of the metro line in November 2018 when we moved to the area. It's unbelievable the speed at which they build over there. The construction of the station started in March 2018.

Peter took the last photo for me yesterday, while I'm in the UK, I suspect by the time I return it will be complete.

I've been documenting various construction projects in Dubai since we moved there in 2014 and have included unusual building designs and other places of interest we've visited around the world.

Dubai Opera House What a difference a year makes

Work started on the Dubai Opera House in April 2013. The first photo was taken in January 2016, shortly before it was was completed in August of that year.

The second photo is the completed Opera House, taken from a different angle, as when I started photographing projects in Dubai, I had no idea how the rate that the City would be growing when we moved here just over 3 years ago.

You can see the rest of my Construction 'before and after' photos of Dubai and around the world and buildings of interest I've photographed below:
